Two-fifths (40%) of Brits will dip into their savings over the next year to fund their international travel plans, while a third will divert spend away from other areas to protect their holidays.
The second edition of the Amadeus’ Consumer Travel Spend Priorities report found international travel was once again ranked by consumers as the highest discretionary spend priority from a basket of six categories.
Clients are expected to spend 28% more on travel over the next year, with UK consumers set to prioritise international travel well ahead of other areas.
More than four in 10 respondents (43%) said international travel was "a high priority" for 2022/23, more than twice as many as the next option (subscription services like Netflix at 19%), and rising to 47% for 2023/24.
Over-55s are predicted to spend twice as much per person on international travel ($3,611) than 18-34 year olds ($1,867).
Jean-Christophe Lacour, senior vice-president global head of products management and delivery for Outpayce from Amadeus said: "This year’s research shows that consumer demand for travel remains strong.
"People are clearly prepared to spend savings that may have been amassed during the pandemic, and to make sacrifices in other areas, to dedicate more funds to international travel."
