George Osborne: 'Travel industry must make its voice heard ahead of Brexit'

George Osborne, who is now editor of the London-based Evening Standard, was the keynote speaker at the last day of the ITT Conference in Sorrento.

In a speech that was predominantly “off the record” he discussed the recent general election, safety and security challenges and how the industry should prepare for Brexit.

“My advice for the industry is to make sure that your voice is heard,” he told delegates.

“Every other industry is doing that, such as the fishing and farming sectors. Make sure your industry – a sector which is important to people’s lives and jobs – is heard.”

He also urged companies across the travel industry to work together in tackling safety and security issues, particularly with regards to terrorism.

He added that he would be “very surprised if [passengers] are able to carry laptops on planes in a year’s time.”
