JetBlue has confirmed details of new services to Boston from Heathrow and Gatwick this summer.
Flights to Boston’s Logan International airport will launch from Gatwick Airport on July 20, followed by Heathrow-Boston on August 23.
Introductory return economy fares from Gatwick start at £349, with JetBlue’s Mint business class from £1,449. Economy Heathrow fares start at £399, with Mint at £1,499.
JetBlue will be the only airline to fly between New England and both Heathrow and Gatwick. It currently offers New York JFK from both airports.
“Our strategy of flying to both Heathrow and Gatwick Airports has been a success for us in New York, and we’ve secured slots to be able to do the same in Boston, becoming the only airline in New England offering flights to London’s two main airports,” said Robin Hayes, JetBlue chief executive.
“Our London service has been an incredible success so far and we’ve been able to go in with our unbeatable JetBlue service and experience and bring down fares on a traditionally overpriced route – the JetBlue Effect in action. We’re ready to do the same at Logan as we advance our growth strategies in both Boston and London.”
The addition of Boston follows the leasing of slots at Heathrow from Qatar Airways.
Boston is a major hub for JetBlue, where it is the airport’s largest carrier, with around 150 daily departures this summer. JetBlue also serves more nonstop destinations than any other airline in Boston, with nearly 70 routes across the US, Caribbean and Latin America.
“JetBlue has been a great partner to Logan for many years and we are excited that they are launching two London - Boston services this summer,” said Boston Massport’s director of aviation Ed Freni.
Heathrow and Gatwick services will be daily, with Gatwick’s departing just after midday and Heathrow’s at 8.25am. Both return services are overnight. The Heathrow-Boston service will see the current JFK 8.25am departure switch to a 2pm slot from August 23.
