Journalist and broadcaster Louis Theroux will close out WTM London next month with a keynote speech reflecting on his wide-ranging travel experiences, which have brought to life – during a more than 30-year media career – an array of challenging topics and individuals.
Theroux, best known for his BBC series’ such as Weird Weekend and When Louis Met..., plus his lockdown podcast Grounded, will appear on the Elevate Stage on the third day of WTM London (Wednesday 8 November) for An Audience with Louis Theroux (3.30pm-4.30pm).
He will be interviewed by founder and chief executive of 5ive, Marcus Murphy, touching on his career, the people he’s met and the countries he has visited, and exploring how his unique and disarming interviews have provided deep insights into the personalities, lifestyles, loyalties and beliefs of those who are often misunderstood or espouse challenging ideologies.
Theroux’s career started in print journalism before joining TV Nation, the Michael Moore documentary series. He then joined the BBC where he made his name taking on wrestlers, mixing with gangsters, and spent swathes of time on the fringes of society – particularly in the US.
"He’s one of the most influential documentary presenters on the planet and his inimitable style has won him many fans," said Juliette Losardo, WTM London exhibition director.
"He sees a different side to the world when he travels, [and] his keynote will be sure to entertain the audience, with stories of what he has uncovered, as well as reminding us of the importance of finding unique experiences.
"His calm, non-confrontational approach is very different to many journalists and documentary presenters and is proof that there is more than one way to get to the bottom of the issue."
