Manchester airport has reopened its runways following further heavy snow across the north of England.
At around 6.30am on Monday (6 January), MAN confirmed it had been forced to close its runways for a second time in two days.
Liverpool and Leeds Bradford airports also shut their runways on Sunday (5 January) due to snow, and there was disruption too at Birmingham, Bristol and Newcastle airports over the weekend.
"Our runways are temporarily closed due to heavy snow," said MAN at around 6.30am on Monday. "Our teams work hard to clear them as quickly as possible."
The operation was complete by 7.15am, but the airport warned that owing to the earlier closure, "some departures and arrivals may still experience delays".
This comes on top of some displacement of flights on Sunday, which either could not take off or were diverted to neighbouring airports.
Passengers are advised to check the latest flight information with their airline before attempting to travel and allowing extra time for their journeys to the airport on Monday.
Jet2.com delayed 19 inbound and 12 departing flights on Sunday to and from the likes of Birmingham, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle.
A further two inbound and two outbound flights that had been due to operate to and from Leeds Bradford airport on Sunday have been delayed until Monday. These were return services to Tenerife South and Antalya. The airline has apologised.
Elsewhere, flooding has caused disruption on several parts of the UK’s rail network, including between Nottingham and Grantham. All lines were blocked between Peterborough and Leicester too, while a tree blocked the line between Ramsgate and Canterbury West.
According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, 152 flights that had been due to depart UK airports on Sunday were cancelled, 6% of all scheduled departures, while 136 arrivals (5%) were also cancelled.
