New additions to an airline’s fleet are always cause for celebration.
Well, nearly always.
Thankfully, when Cathay Pacific unveiled its new Boeing 777 this week, it quickly saw the funny side of the most glaring of errors.
In fact, bystanders could be forgiven they had witnessed the launch not just of a new aircraft, but of a whole new airline when emblazoned on the side of the 777 in the Hong Kong airline’s distinctive blue typeface were the words Cathay Paciic.
In the airline’s own words: Oops.
Credit where credit is due though, the airline quickly put up its hands to acknowledge the error - and had it fixed in a few hours.
Tweeting pithily during the early hours of Wednesday morning, the airline said:
Oops this special livery won’t last long! She’s going back to the shop!
