Rixos Hotels to take on Red Sea 'mega resort' in Hurghada

The resort, scheduled for completion next year, will be relaunched as The Rixos Hurghada Makadi Bay, a 1,636-key all-inclusive beachfront property on Egypt’s Red Sea riviera.

Situated in a secluded bay south of Hurghada, the resort will offer “world-class” leisure, sports and entertainment facilities, as well as access to the region’s diving and golf offerings.

Makadi Bay will feature villas, an indoor and outdoor spa, fitness facilities, kids clubs, a waterpark, beach lounge, conference centre, “wide-ranging” food and drink options and an amphitheatre.

“We are delighted to partner with the Eastern Company for Investment and Touristic Development to launch this flagship project, which will set a new benchmark for luxury all-inclusive all-exclusive resorts in Egypt and the wider Middle East,” said Fettah Tamince, founder and chairman of Turkey’s Rixos Hotels.

Its Makadi Bay renovation will take place in two stages, each scheduled to last a year. Phase one is under way, adding wings and facilities to bring the resort up to Rixos’s brand standards.

The resort will officially launch after phase one with 815 accommodation and room options, including villas, as well as 12 food and drink outlets, beach lounge, 1,500sq/m meeting space, a 2,400sq/m spa and wellness facility, multiple pools, a small aqua park and outdoor areas for fitness and entertainment.

Phase two will get under way as soon as the resort opens its doors, and will introduce a 23,000sq/m water park and accommodation upgrades across the property.

The Rixos Hurghada Makadi Bay will expand Accor’s footprint in Egypt to 25 properties, with another 13 properties in the pipeline across its portfolio, including its Fairmont and Movenpick brands.

On Egypt’s Red Sea and north coast, it currently operates Rixos Sharm El Sheikh, Rixos Alamein and Rixos Premium Seagate in Nabq Bay, as well as Movenpick El Gouna and Movenpick Soma Bay.
