Scotland’s Thorne Travel will open its third shop early next year after acquiring a new store in the South Ayrshire town of Prestwick.
The six-time TTG Top 50 agency, which already has two stores in Kilwinning and Largs, said opening the new shop in Main Street would create at least six new jobs, for which Thorne will recruit locally.
“I have thought about opening a store in Prestwick for some time, it is a lovely town with a warm and hospitable atmosphere,” owner and managing director Shona Thorne told TTG exclusively.
“Our HR team is also about to start recruiting, and we look forward to welcoming customers and helping them find their dream holiday early in 2024”.
Thorne added there was no official date to open the agency’s third branch as the new store would yet require “significant renovation and modernisation”.
Thorne made the headlines in mid-September when she mistook a message inviting her to the Scottish Women’s Awards for a spam message. After clearing things up, she went on to collect the Business of the Year (less than 50 staff) award.
“I was very surprised because it was not a travel-specific award – customers and other businesses voted for us,” she told TTG last month.
Thorne Travel has made TTG’s Top 50 Travel Agencies six times now, and been named Scotland’s top agency on four occasions. In 2018, Thorne was crowned TTG Top 50 Travel Agencies top agency UK and Ireland in 2018.
