Luxury cruise line Silversea Cruises has christened new ship Silver Origin during an expedition-inspired ceremony in the Galapagos Islands.
Guests took to the waters of San Cristobal on Silver Origin’s Zodiacs on 25 February as the line officially welcomed the ship to its fleet of 10. Conservationist Johanna Carrion was named as the vessel’s Godmother.
A tradition of Royal Caribbean Group, a bagpipe performance initiated the naming ceremony, which also marked Jason Liberty’s first ship christening as the new president and chief of the group.
Liberty said Silversea’s efforts to support long-term conservation in the Galapagos Islands was testament to the group’s commitment to the environment.
"My heartfelt congratulations to the Silversea team on this milestone," he added. "Our approach is built on the mantra that ‘respect for the oceans is not a choice, it’s a way of life’."
