The Spanish Tourist Office has launched a "slow travel" campaign to highlight sustainable forms of travel across the destination and its islands.
The #SlowTravelSpain campaign will recognise the "importance of forming a connection" with local people and cultures when travelling, while lessening harmful impacts on communities and the environment.
The campaign will focus on geographical diversification and aim to showcase low-impact activities and journeys that fit within the "slow travel" theme.
The tourist board said taking part in low impact activities, exploring quieter routes and travelling with seasonality in mind will provide visitors with a "more authentic experience" of the country.
According to the organisation, "slow travel" in Spain could mean choosing to travel via rail, or participating in "responsible activities" such as cycling and hiking.
In the upcoming months, the Spanish Tourist Office will be monitoring the hashtag #SlowTravelSpain on its Facebook and Twitter pages to track "slow travel" experiences across Spain and to award prizes to some of the entries.
