How a visit to Canada invigorates the mind

Canada is home to a host of attractions and experiences designed to both challenge and relax the mind

Much like the human body, the human mind needs to be both challenged and given time to relax, so when building a customer’s perfect holiday itinerary it’s important to include activities that will do just that.

ENGAGING EXPERIENCES

Canada’s residents speak English and French so visitors from the UK won’t have to stress about learning a new language. But, on the other hand, if they’re looking for a new challenge they can use – or even learn – the French dialect during their stay in one of the country’s French-speaking provinces.

An alternative way to engage the mind is at one of Canada’s many museums and art galleries. The Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto are packed with thought-provoking exhibitions, Calgary has a thriving visual arts scene and Edmonton is home to the reimagined Art Gallery of Alberta, while Ottawa’s Canadian Museum of History is the country’s most-visited museum.

Whistler’s arts and cultural scene has also had a revival, with the city now offering everything from poetry readings and writing workshops to art battles in its trendy nightclubs. For something a little more emotionally challenging, recommend the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg.

EXPANDING HORIZONS

Cultural immersion is the best way to broaden the mindset of travellers from the UK, so why not suggest your Canada-bound clients venture north to Nunavut to meet its friendly Inuit community?

Inside Iqaluit’s Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum visitors can discover ancient Inuit knives, sleds and jewellery made from whalebone, or they can join a community tour to hear about Inuit life in the modern day.

For alternative options, Destination Canada’s website is the source of more than 200 Canadian Signature Experiences. These are once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences only found in Canada.

The Canadian Signature Experiences designed to teach the mind – and sometimes the body – something new include learning to surf at Tofino on Vancouver Island, joining the research team at Labrador’s Torngat Arctic Research Station, trying wildlife tracking in the Elk River Valley and learning to ski or snowboard in the Rockies.

If learning a new skill is what your client wants to do, recommend a Glanzmann Tours photography workshop focused on wildlife and the Northern Lights in Yukon’s Kluane national park.

Or, the Hopewell Rocks night-photography excursion in New Brunswick teaches students to improve their post-sunset snaps so they can return home with not just memories, but printed proof too.
