Travel Counsellors’ annual sales have surpassed the £1 billion mark for the first time ever and driven, it said, by ongoing strong demand for leisure travel.
The homeworking firm on Monday (23 September) confirmed it had achieved £735 million in leisure sales during the 12 months to 23 August.
Around half of these sales, £364 million, came from the sale of tailored packages, with Travel Counsellors’ in-house tour operation, TC Journeys, now offering 215 itineraries across 66 destinations
The remaining £265 million making up the full one billion came from sales of corporate travel, mainly to small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs).
Travel Counsellors said demand for the Mediterranean, the US, south-east Asia, the Indian Ocean and cruise had driven its leisure business, while the US topped the list for corporate travel.
“We are absolutely delighted to have reached this £1 billion sales milestone for the first time, made possible by the dedication, passion and care of our entire Travel Counsellors community,” said chief executive Steve Byrne.
“But for us, it’s more than just a number – it represents all the instances of TCs caring for their customers that have led us to this point.”
Byrne also attributed the firm’s investment in its technology platform, which he said had help the company "build its position" as a tour operator and to offer more tailored packages to meet the "evolving needs" of TCs’ clients.
During the milestone 12 months to 23 August, Travel Counsellors grew its ranks by 297 to a total of 2,121 business owners running their travel operations through the firm.
Travel Counsellors will mark the achievement with a series of celebratory events this week, culminating in a special live edition of Travel Counsellors’ TCTV show in Manchester.
