Tui has released its first Detailed Access Guides across dozens of hotels in a bid to support customers with accessibility needs.
The operator has confirmed the guides, produced in collaboration with AccessAble, are now live across an initial 200 hotels in locations including Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and Egypt.
The partnership, which Tui claims is the first of its kind for overseas hotels, has seen AccessAble work with more than 1,000 disability groups to ensure the guides can be used by anyone regardless of their needs.
Sue Bradley, Tui UK and Ireland director of customer experience, said: “Tui takes more than six million UK holidaymakers away each year and accessible holiday bookings have grown by 56% since 2022. We want to make travel easy and enjoyable for all our customers, but we know when it comes to planning, it can be a stressful experience for some.
“This can be especially true for those with access needs, who rely on the hotel’s accessibility details being available before booking. Everyone’s access needs are unique to them and at Tui we know hotel accessibility goes beyond ramps and lifts. It’s about capturing all those essential details so customers can make an informed decision when choosing the hotel that’s right for them.”
Tui confirmed that beyond the guides for the initial 200 hotels, which can be found on the Tui and AccessAble websites, a further 200 premises are due to be surveyed in 2024.
AccessAble founder and executive chair, Dr Gregory Burke, added: “In our extensive engagement with disabled people, it has been very clear that hotels and resorts top the list of the most requested places for us to cover.
“Our partnership with Tui is creating real change in the way that disabled people can be in control of how we go on holiday. More broadly, there is a huge need for this type of information. In the last year alone, over six million people have used AccessAble to access vital accessibility information.”
