Flights from UK airports this June will hit their highest level since October 2019, according to new data from aviation analytics firm Cirium.
There are currently 83,136 scheduled departures from UK airports this June, the highest number since October 2019 (94,893). Flights from the UK are up 241% on June 2021, and are down only 16.4% on June 2019.
The data, though, reveals a notable decline in scheduled flights to Spain, where stringent Covid entry requirements remain in place, although the country remains by far the most frequently served from the UK.
According to Cirium, there are currently 12,996 UK flights to Spain scheduled in June, down nearly 9% from 14,244 in June 2019.
Spain confirmed last weekend that it was extending its Covid entry requirements to 15 June, meaning adult arrivals will continue to have to present evidence of full vaccination against Covid-19 or a recent recovery from the infection, while youngsters aged 12-18 will be able to enter on the basis of a negative test.
UK flight capacity to Turkey and Greece in June, by comparison, is ahead of where it was in June 2019; there are currently 3,017 flights scheduled to depart the UK in June for Turkey, up by more than a third (34.5%) from 2,243 in June 2019, and 4,304 to Greece, up 24.2% from 3,464 in June 2019.
Morocco also has an additional 13.8% UK flights scheduled for June (412 compared with 363), while Cyprus is level at 1,023 UK flights in June.
Portugal has experienced a small decline (3.5%, 2,933 down to 2,830), while Croatia is down 11.2% (904 to 803). The US is down nearly 15% (4,435 to 3,782) and Italy 17.2% (5,353 to 4,433).
UK flights to France in June are down 25.1%, UAE by 31.7% and Malta by 33%.
