Virgin Voyages’ third ship will be named Resilient Lady and sail its maiden voyage from Athens next summer, the line has revealed.
Scheduled for completion on 1 July 2022, the vessel will offer two seven-night itineraries around the Mediterranean and Adriatic.
Resilient Lady’s launch expands Virgin Voyages’ presence in Europe next year – with its second ship Valiant Lady homeporting out of Barcelona.
The line’s maiden vessel, Scarlet Lady, is currently scheduled to start sailing this summer after a delayed launch due to the Covid pandemic.
Two seven-night itineraries will be offered onboard Resilient next summer.
The first features Greek history and culture in Athens before island-hopping to Santorini, Rhodes, Crete and Mykonos, while the second offers a visit to Dubrovnik (with a 2am departure) and a chance to experience the nightlife along the Adriatic coast.
Virgin Group founder Richard Branson said: “Sailing in the Med is such an extraordinary experience, and we’re so excited to bring the adventure of a Virgin Voyage to this beautiful place.
“I’m so proud of the incredible work the team has accomplished to introduce Resilient Lady.”
Virgin Voyages chief executive Tom McAlpin added: “Welcoming Resilient Lady to our fleet and revealing these amazing itineraries sets the tone for the most memorable summer voyage.
“We know the time to travel is on the horizon, and Virgin Voyages is here so that we can keep dreaming of irresistible vacations ahead.”
Virgin Voyages made its announcement on International Women’s Day (8 March), with the brand saying it was “no secret women have been challenged to rise up more than ever during the pandemic”.
“The introduction of Resilient Lady arrives on the heels of International Women’s Day, which is symbolic of the spirit of our Lady Ships and is in celebration of women and their achievements, strength, leadership and resilience,” the line added.
