Olympic champion and Saint Lucian athlete Julien Alfred is now a Tourism Ambassador for Saint Lucia to help raise the island’s profile further.
In a special ceremony in Saint Lucia, Alfred was honoured by the Ministry of Tourism for her remarkable achievements. Thousands of Saint Lucians lined the streets to welcome her in an official homecoming this week following her recent gold and silver medal wins in the Women’s 100 meters and 200 meters respectively at the Paris Olympics. Most recently, she reinforced her title of the World’s Fastest Woman at the Brussels Diamond League.
As Tourism Ambassador, Alfredwill participate in promotional events for Saint Lucia throughout the year in key markets internationally. She will be involved in media and marketing initiatives to promote the island. Additionally, she will be part of the SLTA’s social media campaigns to highlight tourism in Saint Lucia. A key feature of this collaboration is the co-branding of the prominent SLTA logo on her PUMA competition and warm-up kits. This partnership is expected to enhance the island’s visibility and establish Alfred as a contemporary global ambassador for Saint Lucia.
"With her influence, we aim to attract visitors seeking not just a destination, but an inspiring experience that resonates deeply," remarked Tourism Minister Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire. "Together, we will create a lasting impact on our tourism sector and inspire the world to discover the beauty of Saint Lucia."
An emotional Alfred remarked “I am truly lost for words, and grateful for the opportunity. I can’t tell which is the bigger achievement right now - winning the Olympic gold or being an ambassador to my beloved country. However, rest assured that wherever I roam, Saint Lucia will always be my first choice.”
The collaboration marks an exciting chapter for both Julien Alfred and the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, with the potential to launch innovative initiatives that highlight the island’s unique offerings and global appeal.
