Cunard’s newest ship Queen Anne has joined another of the cruise line’s iconic Queens in-port for the first time.
Queen Anne docked in Civitavecchia, on the western coast of Italy, at 7am on August 5, shortly after Queen Victoria had called at the port at 5am.
The picture (above) shows the two ships docked bow-to-bow in the port, with Captain Dave Hudson of Queen Anne and Captain Tomas Connery marking the historic milestone.
Queen Anne is currently halfway through a 14-night roundtrip Western Mediterranean voyage from Southampton, whilst Queen Victoria will embark on a 7-night sailing to Barcelona.
Both ships departed at 7pm local time, with Queen Anne bound for Cartagena in Spain and Queen Victoria sailing to Livorno in Italy.
Queen Anne departed on her maiden voyage on 3 May, a seven-night sailing to Lisbon via La Coruna, and has since embarked on voyages to the Canary Islands, the Norwegian Fjords, and the Mediterranean as well as a celebratory circumnavigation of the British Isles – which included her historic naming ceremony in Liverpool in June.
Katie McAlister, president of Cunard, said: “This is a truly special moment for Cunard as Queen Anne meets another of our iconic Queens for the first time. It marks a significant milestone in what has been a hugely successful maiden season for our newest ship. Seeing two of our magnificent Queens side by side beautifully showcases why Cunard is celebrated worldwide as the pioneer of luxury ocean travel.”
