Active Travel Group expands into Italy with cycling acquisition
Will PayneActive Travel Group has expanded into Italy with the acquisition of the cycling interests of specialist tour operator, Inspire Italy.
The acquisition – for an undisclosed sum – provides Active Travel Group with a platform for cycle operations in the Italian regions of Tuscany and Umbria.
This destination becomes the firm’s sixth European operating base for leisure cycling and its first in Italy, complementing existing French operations in Provence, Loire Valley, Champagne and Bordeaux, and English bases in Sussex and the Cotswolds.
Cycling for Softies, one of Active Travel Group’s brands, has initially launched two five-seven night self-guided and two fully guided leisure cycling itineraries, each starting from Cortona on the border of Tuscany and Umbria.
Active Travel Group chief Craig Burton said: "With Inspired Italy seeking to divest its cycle interests to focus on their award-winning winter Dolomite ski safaris, we jumped at the opportunity to take the cycle business forward under our ownership."
The Grand Tour of Tuscany self-guided itinerary starts from £1,175pp for a five-night tour, including e-bike hire, GPS navigation, half-board meals, accommodation, and luggage transfers.
