EasyJet will mark 25 years’ flying from Belfast International later this month with the launch of a new route to Egypt.
Flights to Hurghada will get under way on 31 October; easyJet will initially operate the route weekly on Tuesdays, before expanding to a twice-weekly schedule (Tuesdays and Saturdays) from 2 December until 26 March 2023.
Hurghada is easyJet’s first flight route to Egypt from Northern Ireland’s capital.
It is one of four new easyJet routes that have launched, or are set to launch, from Belfast International this year, including Antalya and Rhodes.
Three-times-weekly slights to Southampton, meanwhile, will get under way on 29 October, boosting domestic connectivity.
EasyJet’s first-ever Belfast flight – to Luton – took off 25 years; since then, it has flown more than 70 million passengers from Belfast, including 4.5 million in the past year alone.
Earlier this year, it stationed its eighth aircraft in Belfast, where it has already increased capacity by nearly 10% compared with pre-pandemic levels, upping its schedule to more than 90 flights a week.
UK country manager Ali Gayward said easyJet’s focus on Belfast was "testament to the strong demand for travel" from Northern Ireland.
Belfast International managing director Graham Keddie said easyJet "revolutionalised" air travel when it launched from Belfast 25 years ago.
"They have become an integral part of the airport’s growth in that time, bringing unrivalled connectivity, significant investment and providing employment to hundreds of people," said Keddie.
