The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Turkey after the death toll from the earthquake which hit the south of the country and northern Syria reached 33,000.
Those in the affected area have been advised by the FCDO to exercise caution and follow the guidance of the local authorities.
A spokesperson said: "If you require consular assistance, you should call our 24-hour helpline on +90 312 455 3344 and select the option for ’consular services for British nationals’."
Some hotels in Turkey are also offering free accommodation to individuals affected by the earthquake. Individuals in need should contact AFAD (Turkey’s disaster and emergency management service).
It comes after two of the UK’s largest tour operators – Jet2holidays and Tui – pledged a fleet of coaches in support of relief efforts last week.
In addition, Tui’s Turkish hotels and resorts subsidiary has opened its Pegasos resort as a guest home for earthquake victims, and the Tui Care Foundation is matching all donations to its emergency relief fund appeal.
Elsewhere, EasyJet launched an onboard collection initiative to help raise funds for Unicef’s Turkey and Syria earthquake appeal and Intrepid Travel launched its own emergency appeal supporting the Red Cross.
Holiday Extras pledged £10,000 towards Oxfam’s emergency relief fund and several carriers, including Turkey’s Pegasus Airlines, started operating earthquake relief flights away from the disaster zone.
