London’s Elizabeth Line, which runs to Heathrow, will be hit by a strike later this month on the first anniversary of its opening.
TSSA members will take industrial action on Wednesday 24 May in an ongoing dispute over the pay of operational staff. The strike will be followed by an overtime ban and withdrawal of goodwill from 27 May to 4 June, which includes the spring bank holiday weekend.
The union said “many” staff were paid “tens of thousands of pounds” less than colleagues performing similar roles on other parts of the Transport for London (TfL) network, including London Underground.
This is the second strike on the Elizabeth Line, after TSSA members took action on 12 January. The Elizabeth Line is the UK’s busiest railway, responsible for one in six of all journeys.
TSSA members work in essential roles, including traffic managers and incident response manager grades.
TSSA organising director Mel Taylor said: “We’ve been in talks with management for almost a year now, yet the majority of our members have been offered an uplift of just over 1% to make up for the huge pay differentials.”
Taylor added many earned “less than two-thirds” of the salary paid to other TfL staff in similar roles.
