The recovery of UK retail footfall slowed last month as the cost of living crisis hit shoppers, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Sensormatic IQ. Overall footfall was down 12.4% compared to pre-Covid levels, an improvement of just 1.8 percentage points from July. (City AM)
Tui faces group action over Egypt illnesses
A group of holidaymakers who all got sick at a five-star Hurghada hotel have launched legal action against Tui. Around 15 people suffered gastric illness symptoms at the Jaz Aquamarine Hotel between February and July this year, with several put on a drip. Specialist lawyer Irwin Mitchell is fighting the claim. EasyJet crew given hospital checks following passenger fight
EasyJet crew members were sent for hospital check-ups after a passenger fight during a flight from Manchester to Tenerife. An arrest was made after a drunken passenger attacked another. Medical checks meant the inbound flight was delayed for 12 hours, with passengers given hotel accommodation. (The Sun)
Cargo ship leaks oil off Gibraltar
Gibraltar authorities have insisted an oil spill from a stranded cargo ship is "under control" after a collision. Heavy fuel oil leaked from the bulk carrier OS 35 after it collided with an LNG tanker near the Bay of Gibraltar on Monday. (Sky News)
More train strikes announced
More than 40,000 RMT members from 14 train firms are set to strike in two days in September. The walkout has been caused by disputes over pay, jobs and working conditions. Action will take place on 15 and 17 September. (Daily Mirror)
England’s joint hottest summer ends
This summer was England’s joint hottest on record, the Met Office has said. Provisional figures show June, July and August had an average temperature of 17.1C, tying with 2018 to be the warmest in records dating from 1884. (Sky News)
