Tour operators Intrepid Travel and Byway have teamed up to offer flight-free holidays to Europe following an uptick in demand for more sustainable trips.
The new partnership will see Byway facilitate travel to and from the start and end points of Intrepid’s small group tours to Europe.
Byway specialises in slow journeys by train, including sleepers, and boat for travellers who opt for a flight-free holiday.
Multi-day Byway journeys can be booked via the company’s website and include en route pauses and overnight stays, becoming an extension of the Intrepid trip.
The service is available for Intrepid tours to Italy and Spain initially, with more destinations to be added in the next phase of the partnership.
Examples of bookable itineraries include Intrepid’s Italy Real Food Adventure tour with a train trip by Byway via France, Switzerland, Germany and Brussels, or Highlights of Andalucia with an additional Byway train itinerary through France.
The partnership comes as Intrepid’s latest customer survey revealed 54% of UK travellers think travelling sustainably is important, 45% said they preferred slow travel and 52% said they planned to travel for longer periods post-pandemic.
Intrepid’s global environmental impact manager Susanne Etti said: “We are excited to be working with Byway in what we believe is an industry-first – two travel B Corps supporting each other to make it easier than ever for people to enjoy slow, 100% flight free holidays.”
