Newmarket Holidays launches first solos collection to the trade
James ChappleNewmarket Holidays has launched a new range of solo tours following a "big rise" in bookings from single people aged 50-plus.
The collection features 25 short- and long-haul tours, five of which have been curated exclusively for solo travellers and come with no single supplement.
These span trips taking in the Highlands of Scotland (from £825pp), western Sicily (from £1,249pp), Croatia’s islands (from £1,889pp), a Kenyan safari and beach break (from £3,479pp), and India’s Golden Triangle (from £2,875pp).
Agents can also offer their solo clients a 15% discount on these exclusive solo tours when booked before 9 June using code SOLO.
The remaining 20 tours in the range are a collection of existing Newmarket itineraries adapted to offer no single supplements on selected departures throughout the year. These include a nature-centred Norwegian fjords trip, a Douro vineyards tour and a journey through Peru’s Sacred Valley.
Newmarket head of trade sales, Richard Forde, said the launch came in response to feedback from agents. “Our trade partners love our wide choice of departure dates and competitive pricing on our escorted tours," he said. "They’ve been asking for more of the same for the solo traveller, and this is the catalyst.
"Agents have not only 25 tours to choose from, but also a vast range of dates to offer their customers and two fantastic options for the solo traveller."
The escorted touring specialist added its own search and booking data, which had shown a big rise in single person bookings from the 50-plus age group, coupled with growing trend data from Google for "solo travel" had informed its decision.
Verity Rice, Newmarket director of product, purchasing and operations, added: “Solo travel is becoming more popular than ever and we recognise it’s important to ensure we have a wide variety of options for single travellers.
"With five tours that are exclusively for solos, and lots more options for those wanting to join our classic tours without paying an additional supplement, our Solo Collection features getaways that go beyond the guidebooks, and offer the company and community of like-minded travellers.
"Our five exclusive solo tours include no single supplements, while our classic tours have a limited number of places without single supplements throughout the year on selected dates, so early booking is recommended."
