Tanzania is to be promoted in the UK by a new private-sector marketing group comprising lodges and DMCs across the country.
Tantoo (Tanzania Tourism Organisation) will host training events for the trade, take fam trips and launch an online training programme. It will also provide product information, news and rates and represent Tanzania to the media and at consumer travel shows.
The organisation has been set up by marketing specialist Kamageo, which has a range of other African tourist board and private-sector clients. It has also run a private-sector marketing group for Malawi for 15 years and Zambia for two years.
Kamageo chief executive Tim Henshall said: “Tanzania has not been marketed in the UK properly for a long, long time, but we feel sure that if this incredible country is marketed professionally, effectively and with a sensible budget, UK visitor numbers could increase significantly.”
Partners that have already joined Tantoo include Azura Retreats, Coastal Aviation, Mbali Mbali, the Zanzibar Collection, Lake Natron Camp and Great Rift Valley Treks, Takims Holidays and Rangers Safaris. The Tanzania Tourist Board will also offer logistical support to the group.
Meanwhile, Kamageo has recently appointed a new trade marketing manager to boost engagement across its Africa portfolio. Lisa Burton was formerly a Tui branch manager and then a Personal Travel Agent with Midcounties Co-operative Travel.
