The UK Foreign Office has warned of travel to Cuba after authorities predicted a tropical storm will reach the country on Monday evening (26 September).
The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has issued a hurricane warning for the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisas and Isla de Juventud in Western Cuba.
The NHC has also issued a tropical storm warning for the provinces of La Habana, Mayabeque and Matanzas. Strong winds and heavy rainfall is expected and there is the risk of flooding, coastal storm surges, and mudslides.
The FCDO advised visitors to "closely monitor" local and international weather updates from the NHC and follow the advice of local authorities and tour operators including any evacuation orders.
According to Reuters, Tropical Storm Ian prompted the Cuban government to evacuate tourists from the Isla de la Juventud and Cayo Largo on Sunday (25 September) amid expectations of life-threatening storm surges.
