TTG Media has signed the Glasgow Declaration of Climate Action in Tourism.
The Glasgow Declaration, launched at last year’s UN Climate Change Conference (Cop26) in Scotland, urges all travel and tourism stakeholders to unite with a shared voice and commitment to aligning the sector’s climate ambitions with scientific recommendations and international agreements.
The Glasgow Declaration asks the sector to commit to reducing emissions in tourism by at least 50% over the next decade and achieve Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050.
TTG Media joins more than 500 travel and tourism-related businesses and organisations in signing the declaration.
TTG Media’s CEO Daniel Pearce said: “Since 2019, TTG Media’s mission has been to champion a Smarter, Better, Fairer travel industry, that minimises its negative environmental impact on the world. But we recognise that as a media business, we too have a responsibility to measure and declare our own carbon emissions, and to take purposeful action to reduce them. By setting out an ambition to halve our carbon footprint by 2030, and by sharing best practice, we hope to inspire and inform our travel industry audience to come on the journey with us.”
As a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration, TTG Media commits to:
- halving emissions by 2030 and reaching Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050;
- delivering a climate action plan within 12 months signing, and to begin implementing it;
- aligning plans with the five pathways of the Declaration (Measure, Decarbonise, Regenerate, Collaborate, Finance) to accelerate and co-ordinate climate action in tourism;
- reporting publicly on an annual basis on progress against interim and long-term targets, as well as on actions being taken.
- working in a collaborative spirit, sharing good practices and solutions, and disseminating
information to encourage additional organisations to become signatories and supporting one another to reach targets as quickly as possible.
TTG Media has also announced a partnership with sustainability consultancy TerraVerde, who will help TTG devise a strategy to reduce carbon emissions and other negative impacts, and increase TTG Media’s positive contribution to society and the environment.
