US travel is still suffering from a Brexit hangover while the Trump slump continues to affect its fortunes.
New data released by ForwardKeys shows bookings in the first two months of the year were effectively flat to the destination following a fall of 0.02%.
It comes following a drop of 2% in arrivals last year as Trump’s ban on travel for people from certain Middle East countries began to bite.
The situation has been exacerbated by the drop in value of sterling against the dollar in the wake of the 2016 Brexit vote and still lingers now.
Chinese traveller numbers to the county also flattened out in 2017. However, there are signs that a recovery may be driven by the local market in the Americas where both Mexican and Brazilian bookings are picking up.
In the US Miami bookings fell by 1% as travellers from the key British, German and Mexican markets opted for Orlando and Fort Lauderdale instead.
ForwardKeys chief executive and co-founder Olivier Jager said: “Travel to, and within, the US has seen fluctuating trends in recent years and one hopes that the latest booking numbers for travel within the Americas indicate an upturn."
