Construction on Royal Caribbean International’s newest class of ship, Icon of the Seas, is under way in Turku, Finland.
Recently the 175-metric-tonne sphere – first seen in December 2021 – was lifted onto the ship after four days of preparation and a day-long transfer by barge.
Currently 46 feet tall and 50 feet in diameter, the structure is now wrapped in protective material and ready for the next phase of its construction.
The line’s next ship, Icon, is set to debut in autumn 2023 and will be Royal’s first vessel powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
