Wizz Air has said a global inspection programme of some Airbus engines will not derail its plans to expand by 20% in the second half of 2024.
The carrier must ground around 45 aircraft in January - nearly a third of its fleet - for inspections of turbines on some Airbus A320neo aircraft after a directive by safety bodies.
Despite this setback, the airline said: “We reconfirm +20% capacity guidance year on year for H2 F24.
“There is no increase in the estimated number of grounded Wizz aircraft in F24, no change to Wizz’s flat year on year capacity estimate in 2025 and no change to the January 2024 timing for Wizz’s grounding programme.”
It is estimated 600-700 aircraft are affected globally by the issue with the Pratt & Whitney engines.
