A hardy group of Not Just Travel consultants are taking on a 10-day charity trek to Machu Picchu in support of one of their colleagues, who has twice survived breast cancer.
Some 20 Not Just Travel consultants, along with members of the agency’s corporate team, will hike the Inca Trail later this year with the aim of raising thousands of pounds for The Pink Ribbon Foundation.
The foundation is a grant-making trust, which funds projects and provides financial support to UK charities relieving the needs of people suffering from, or who have been affected by, breast cancer.
The Breast Trek Ever endeavour will see the group hike the 25-mile trail from 29 September to 9 October this year, reaching altitudes of nearly 14,000 feet on the way.
Not Just Travel has teamed up with G Adventures for the initiative with the aim of raising £10,000 in honour of consultant Rachael Coyne, who has twice survived multiple types of breast cancer.
"The sense of community, camaraderie and accomplishment, plus the joy in knowing you are raising so much money for an incredible charity, is immeasurable,” Not Just Travel co-founder Steve Witt said.
“Our consultants are a close-knit team who are helpful and incredibly supportive to each other; this challenge will only bring them closer.”
Not Just Travel consultant Sam Cummings said she was excited to take on the challenge and to raise money for the cause while introducing her clients to the famous adventure route.
“I have had friends and family affected by breast cancer and love that I can combine doing something I’ve always wanted to do with raising money for a great cause," she said.
"Many of my customers want to go and so to be able to share my trip first-hand and be able to bring it to life for other people will be a great boost to my business."
Lisa Allen, the Pink Ribbon Foundation’s head of corporate partnerships, added: "As a charity with very little infrastructure, a high proportion of the funds raised goes directly as grants to many UK charities concerned with breast cancer.
“We’ve collaborated with Not Just Travel for many months and so we know that the passion and enthusiasm of their consultants will make this initiative a huge success.”
Ahead of the trek, the Not Just Travel consultants taking part will receive fitness and training tips, as well as marketing and social media advice to promote their charity efforts – as well as the destination itself.
