The ski market looks set to close in on 2019 levels this winter with Brits’ appetite for winter sports breaks poised to defy the ongoing cost of living squeeze.
Data published by aviation analytics firm Cirium and ski specialist Ski Solutions has revealed December flight departures are scheduled to run to 96% of 2019 levels, up 16% on December 2022.
According to Cirium’s figures, Austria has emerged as one of the largest winter markets – with flights exceeding pre-pandemic levels by 8% – followed by the likes of Italy and Norway.
Similar trends were reported by London-based operator Ski Solutions, which saw a 10% year-on-year rise in the number of overall reservations. The firm has also reported an increase in trips to Austria and Italy, with bookings up by 48% and 20% respectively.
“It’s very reassuring to see the increase in demand since pre-pandemic levels to our core countries of destination,” said Ski Solutions managing director Ian McIlrath. “We remain very positive about the outlook for the 2023/24 ski season.”
