Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have warned of potential disruption to UK flight departures following a raft of Met Office weather warnings for snow, ice, rain and high winds, which are set to take effect from Thursday (8 February).
An amber warning for snow and ice across the Peak District and south Pennines will come into force from midday on Thursday, as will a separate amber warning for snow in north Wales and Shropshire.
Thursday’s warnings are concentrated in the north of England, Northern Ireland and Scotland, with yellow warnings for snow and ice in place for much of these more northerly areas on Thursday. The south of England and south Wales, meanwhile, is covered by a yellow warning for rain.
In England and Northern Ireland, these warnings carry over into the early hours of Friday (9 February) while for Scotland, warnings of snow and ice extend into Friday afternoon and evening.
"Our operations team are monitoring the UK forecast closely to ensure we have the most up-to-date information for all Jet2.com departing and arriving customers on 8 February 2024," said Jet2 in an update issued shortly before 11pm on Wednesday (7 February).
"The Met Office has warned of possible high winds and heavy snowfall in some parts of the UK, mainly affecting higher ground. They have already issued some amber warnings for parts of Wales and the north of England.
"If you are travelling with Jet2.com we plan to operate our flights as close to schedule as possible, however, there may be some disruption should the weather deteriorate."
Jet2 passengers are advised to leave extra time to get to their departure airport and to check the status of their flight before setting off. Members of Jet2’s red team will be on hand in terminals.
Passengers will be notified of any disruption by text and email, and can get up-to-date information from the Jet2 website.
"We will, where possible, board all flights for an on-time departure," the airline and operator added. "However, please be prepared for a longer than normal wait either in the terminal or onboard the aircraft to depart."
