Thousands of tourists have been evacuated after more wildfires tore across southwest France and Tenerife.
More than 3,000 tourists were evacuated from the Pyrenees-Orientales area of France after a blaze reportedly destroyed around 500 hectares in the region near the Spanish border before it was brought under control by firefighters.
According to The Times, at least four campsites were evacuated after strong winds of 20-30mph carried the flames through towns and villages.
Local authorities have urged holidaymakers to take caution as the risk of fires remains high. The UK Foreign Office has not updated its travel advice for France.
Elsewhere, Reuters reports Spanish authorities ordered the evacuation of four villages in Tenerife after a blaze broke out in the nature park surrounding the Mount Teide volcano.
The fire, which started on Tuesday night (15 August), has devastated around 130 hectares of land near the volcano as of Wednesday morning (16 August).
It comes following a spate of wildfires across southern Europe and the Mediterranean, impacting destinations such as Rhodes, Portugal’s Algarve region and Italy, as well as further afield locations including Hawaii.
